Merry Christmas, all. I have not done much blogging in December due to personal, financial, and other things taking up my time, but I came across a particularly important quotation, yes, quotation, not quote (a verb), that can help us understand why I changed the name of the blog from "American can be fixed" to "American Can't be Fixed."
The author of this particularly poignant quotation is unknown, but his/her words are extremely timely and telling of the state that the USA finds itself:
"Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."
One can clearly discover that the USA is now in the dependence stage after moving from selfishness to complacency and apathy. The US has all the telltale signs of moving back to the bondage stage as we become the nation of bail-outs dependent on its government for everything.
Thomas Jefferson also understood the problem when he stated:
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
This quotation of President Jefferson is called "The End of Democracy" quotation. I believe that says it all. It's just sad that it took a Republican President (Bush-43) to begin this process under the guise of "preventing a financial meltdown" which they did not, and handed it over to a liberal White House and Congress which will continue it to where democracy becomes dependence and ultimately bondage or loss of freedom.
It may not happen tomorrow, but slowly over time, the erosion will take place. One day our children and grandchildren will wake up in a USA where personal freedoms are just memories of the recent past.
